I put a bow on it.

Every year when I prepare my cards for mailing, I tie a satin bow around them. I love hearing the big “THUNK!” as I drop them through the mail slot. I picture the postman picking up the stack, and hope my little act of holiday cheer brings a smile.

Maybe the bow will somehow make its way under a Christmas tree, adorning a special gift. Wouldn’t that be fun?!

Do you still mail Christmas cards?

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

There goes Peter Cottontail

Well, with the recent announcement that we need to practice social distancing through the month of April, it looks like Easter will be hippity hoppitying right past us this year.

So . . . I thought I’d cheer myself up by setting the table for an Easter tea; imagining myself enjoying homemade quiche and scones with friends. Doesn’t that sound good right now?

I used vintage china that I collected from Etsy and a table runner that I picked up at Target. While I’ll miss the yearly visit from the Easter Bunny, the fun pops of color on the table are definitely brightening my day today. (P.S. The milk chocolate bunny in the Easter basket may or may not be missing his ears since these photos were taken.)

What’s on your agenda? I hope your day is a good one!

All is calm… All is bright.

“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.”

— Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

Last weekend, I finally had the chance to spend some quality time with a few dear friends, who warmed my house with laughter and holiday cheer.

With each passing year it seems more difficult to hold onto the traditions that make the holiday special… but those little touches are so worth it when they are noticed and appreciated by the people you love.

Just trimming the tree can take hours, especially when you have twice as many ornaments as you have branches!

My friends helped me decorate my tree this year, and it was so nice. Everyone had their own idea of where to put the ornaments, and it turned out beautifully… my favorite tree ever!

Mom helped decorate too. “I know these ornaments as well as I know my own.” And she should! We’ve spent hours together in darling little shops, searching for “the ornament” to grace that year’s tree. I love unwrapping them at Christmas time and oohing and ahhing over each one.

Now that the halls are decked, I’m looking forward to relaxing with my family, and of course, enjoying some delicious holiday treats!

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and the most wonderful New Year!

Oh, and Santa… my stocking is hung by the chimney with care. I’ll be leaving you the usual cookies and milk; just don’t get any ideas about my Cookie Butter!

Santa Claus Lane

The wreaths are up on the lamp posts at the University near my house; my street’s very own version of “Santa Claus Lane.”

I was so tickled seeing them for the first time a few days ago, and now I have the pleasure of driving past them every day on my way home from work.

Some people grumble at the sight of Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving, but I just love it. We can celebrate BOTH holidays. That’s why it’s called “the holiday season,” right?

Considering that I was humming Christmas carols well before Halloween, I think I’ll continue to embrace the early arrival of all things glittered.

In today’s busy, no-time-to-stop-and-smell-the-roses-world, a little extra holiday magic can’t hurt!

p.s. Are you singing “Here Comes Santa Claus?” I am!
